Jose's Blue Sombrero in the Wauwatosa Village will permanently close its doors before the new year.

A staff member at the Mexican restaurant, 7615 W. State St., confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Saturday, Dec. 27, will be the last day of service for the eatery.

Susana of Jose's Blue Sombrero serves lunch during TosaFest in downtown Wauwatosa on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. Jose's has announced that it will serve its last meals on Dec. 27, 2025.

The restaurant's departure from the Village will open up a storefront in the prominent State Street business area hit hard by August flooding.

Nearby, the building that once housed The Little Read Book, 7603 W. State St., will become North 48° bar in spring 2026, the Journal Sentinel previously reported.

Known for its fajitas and margaritas, Jose's Blue Sombrero is a DeRosa Corporation restaurant. The Wauwatosa location's closure leaves one final Jose's Blue Sombrero location open in Racine. The group's Fox Point restaurant, 8617 N. Port Washington Road, closed in late October 2025.

A representative with DeRosa did not immediately answer the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's request for comment.

A sign outside the Village restaurant broke the closure news, which was first reported by OnMilwaukee.

“For those holding gift cards, please be advised that they can be redeemed at the Jose’s Blue Sombrero Racine Location, the Chancery Pub in Mequon and Parkside 23 in Brookfield," the sign said, referring to other restaurants owned by DeRosa Corporation.
